Getting Started

1. Install the Keyboard: Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard > Speech Board
2. Enable Full Access: Tap Speech Board in the keyboard list and enable “Allow Full Access” (required for voice transcription)
3. Add Your API Key: Open the Speech Board app and enter your OpenAI API key in Settings
4. Start Speaking: Switch to Speech Board keyboard in any app and tap the microphone button

How do I get an OpenAI API key?

Visit platform.openai.com to create an account and generate an API key.

Why does the keyboard need Full Access?

Full Access is required to send your voice recordings to OpenAI’s Whisper API for transcription. Without it, the keyboard cannot process your speech.

Which languages are supported?

Speech Board supports 50+ languages through OpenAI Whisper, including English, Spanish, French, German, Turkish, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, and many more.

How does translation work?

Enable translation in Settings, select your target languages, then tap the translate button on the keyboard. Speak in your language and the text will be typed in the target language.

How much does it cost?

Speech Board itself is free. You only pay for OpenAI API usage, which is typically very affordable for speech-to-text (approximately $0.006 per minute of audio).

Is my data private?

Yes. Your voice data is sent directly to OpenAI for transcription. Speech Board does not collect, store, or share any of your data. See our Privacy Policy for details.
